National Compliance Assistance Centers

The Centers provide access to the information you need, in a way that helps make sense of environmental regulations.

Each Center addresses real world issues faced by a specific industry or government sector. The Centers deliver information in many forms:

  • Internet Web sites
  • telephone assistance lines
  • e-mail discussion groups

Environmental regulations can be confusing. It's often hard to find out exactly what you need to do, in language that relates directly to the operations of your business or government agency.

Let the Centers help you understand your environmental requirements -- and show you how to save money by preventing pollution in the first place.

Healthcare Environmental Resource Center (HERC). In 2021, work was initiated to update the Managing Pharmaceutical Waste A 10-Step Blueprint for Healthcare Facilities (2008) to reflect 2019 regulatory changes. It is anticipated that this work will be completed by Spring 2022 and the new document will be available on the Healthcare Environmental Resource Center (HERC).

Surface Technology Environmental Resource Center (STERC). STERC's partner, the National Association for Surface Finishing, is tracking developments regarding effective solutions to reduce and eliminate any residual PFOS in wastewater discharges from plating facilities perfluorooctane sulfonic acid (PFOS). This information is accessible from STERC and NASF websites.

Construction Industry Compliance Assistance Center (CICA). CICA has posted revised assistance on the Renovation, Repair, and Painting (RRP or Lead Paint) Rule. Contractors working in older (before 1978) buildings need to follow the RRP Rule to keep themselves and customers and occupants safe from lead.

Environmental Compliance Information for Energy Extraction (ECIEE). ECIEE provides information on recent developments including the Upcoming Oil and Natural Gas Methane Rule.

Healthcare Environmental Assistance Center added a COVID19 medical waste section that includes Federal and Sate guidelines.

US EPA Small Business Resources Information Sheet. This information sheet provides an array of resources, including workshops, training sessions, hotlines, websites and guides, to help small businesses understand and comply with federal and state environmental laws.

EPA Selects New National Compliance Initiatives. The EPA focuses its enforcement and compliance resources on the most serious environmental violations by developing and implementing national program priorities called National Compliance Initiatives (NCIs). The overarching goal is to increase compliance in the six NCIs for the FY 2020-2023 cycle. EPA/OECA will develop implementation frameworks for each NCI that will include approaches using our full range of compliance assurance tools, including compliance assistance, self-audits, and informal and formal enforcement actions to achieve the goals of each NCI. Managing Your Hazardous Waste: A Guide for Small Businesses. This new EPA handbook provides an overview of the federal hazardous waste regulations and helps businesses understand how best to comply with federal hazardous waste management regulations.

Surface Technology Environmental Resource Center (STERC) added a Technical Articles feature. The articles are written by National Association for Surface Finishing (NASF), a STERC sponsor.
